People are talking about Girls on the Run of Sioux Falls...
The lessons are not just for girls, they are for women, and for everyone. I believe by living out the GOTR values and lessons in our own lives, and remembering as women to stay out of the "girl box" we can enrich our own lives and the lives of those around us. I always find it ironic when I am reading the GOTR lessons or teaching them, I find them just as applicable to myself as to the girls. Just because we coaches are adults does not mean we know and/or remember to practice these ideas in our own life. I regard GOTR as part of my life now because of the girls I have come to know and the coaches I get to work with. My Tuesday afternoons are time spent with young girls full of hope. This is a weekly reminder to me to keep the hope for positive change in the midst of a lot of negative events in our world.

I just wanted to drop you both a note to let you know how impressed and thrilled we have been with the Girls on the Run program. [Our daughter] is disappointed that it is coming to a close, and her enthusiasm for fitness means a lot to [us]. She looks forward to going and loves to share what went on each day. Thank you for making the program happen at [school], your time and effort has been appreciated! I will highly recommend it to anyone!

I know the curriculum about healthy eating has been sinking in, I have had several girls stop and want "a word with me". They would like to see more fruits and vegetables available at lunch, and were concerned about the healthiness of the lunch choices at school, as well as the health choices some students are making by what they bring to school for lunch. This has been a very successful program!

I really loved Girls on the Run because I benefited alot from it! What I got out of it was it helped me prepare for Middle School. I learned that gossip is like a big spiderweb, so please don't start to gossip because you'll end up in a bigger mess. This program also helped me get into shape and set goals. I set my goal to run 3 miles without stopping and I accomplished this goal. So girls, I think any of you should sign up because this is a great opportunity!

Honestly, I think I get more out of how much fun the girls are than in making a difference for them. They make a difference to me.

I learned it's good to feel good about yourself!

I love to run and the race was hard work but I loved it because I knew I tried hard. I learned to not give up on yourself and be satisfied with who I am. And not to smoke. I have learned a lot in GOTR.

The girls are so excited about GOTR. They enjoy the coaches and getting outside. I am in awe of the commitment of the GOTR coaches, who are dedicated to making this a positive experience for the girls. I am especially pleased with the lessons. The girls gain skills for making good decisions, getting along with others and improving their self esteem. The lessons along with positive coaching and teamwork build a sense of accomplishment in the girls. I have seen them grow stronger and more confident throughout the 10 weeks.Thank you!
